Cajun Cooks sought for 2nd annual Conn Cajun Cook-off contest.
May 14, 2008 Posted by Adam Kurtz

So you think you can cook Cajun??? So you think you’re the best Cajun chef this side of the Mason-Dixon Line??? Then you need to enter the 2nd annual Cajun Cook-off to be held June 14th outside at CONN Communications, 1300 Main Street, Keokuk, IA.No matter how high the temperature reaches this coming June 14th, it will not compare with the heat generated at the 2nd annual CONN Cajun Cook-off.
In the spring of 2007, celebrated chefs, John Moander and Wayne Campbell, participated in the first Cook-off. Campbell was declared the winner in the closely contested race. Moander disputed the decision and vowed to meet Wayne in a cook-off this year and take home the prize.
Proceeds from last year’s event were donated to the Rand Park Pavilion building and construction fund.
The culinary challenge is guaranteed to intensify during this June’s melee when Moander and Campbell are joined by additional area chefs all vying for the entitlement to boast about receiving the competition’s 1st place cash award. 2nd & 3rd place winners will be recognized as well.
Cajun entrees will be judged by the public as well as a ‘distinguished” panel of judges. Gumbo, jambalaya, and sweet potatoes will all be part of the edible offerings. Strains of Zydeco music will add to the flavor.
Enter online at conncommunications.com or entry forms may be picked up at any of the CONN COMMUNICATIONS, INC locations, in Keokuk, Ft Madison, Muscatine, Kahoka, MO, Nauvoo, Carthage and Springfield, Illinois.
Come and enjoy the day!!

Sweet Deal From U.S. Cellular
April 11, 2008 Posted by Adam Kurtz
U.S. Cellular is putting on a sweet deal April 11th through the 26th. If you are a resident of Iowa then I wouldn’t pass this deal up if you can help it. It is one of the best deals I’ve ever seen U.S. Cellular offer. All you have to do is come to one of our Conn Communications locations and sign-up or renew an existing 2 year agreement on any plan $49.99 or higher and U.S. Cellular will put a $50 credit per line towards your bill. That means if you come in and get 5 new phones, you will get $250 credited towards your bill. Not bad right? You could possibly get a couple months of free service just for signing up or renewing your 2 year contract. Plus not to mention you get to play with a new phone when you leave the store. If you already have service with U.S. Cellular, call or stop into one of our stores to see if you are eligible. We have locations in Keokuk, Fort Madison, Carthage, Nauvoo and Kahoka.

How bluetooth got it’s name :D
Posted by Kyra Steenberg
Origin of the name and the logo
Bluetooth was named after a late tenth century king, Harald Bluetooth, King of Denmark and Norway. He is known for his unification of previously warring tribes from Denmark (including now Swedish Scania, where the Bluetooth technology was invented), and Norway. Bluetooth likewise was intended to unify different technologies, such as personal computers and mobile phones.[25] [26]
The name may have been inspired less by the historical Harald than the loose interpretation of him in The Long Ships by Frans Gunnar Bengtsson, a Swedish Viking-inspired novel.
The Bluetooth logo merges the Germanic runes analogous to the modern Latin letter H and B: (for Harald Bluetooth)
(Hagall) and
(Berkanan) merged together, forming a bind rune.
Motorola 323i Charging Issue
March 27, 2008 Posted by Adam Kurtz
An issue was brought to our attention surrounding the Motorola 323i and charging. US Cellular has been doing some internal investigating with the Motorola 323i that they thought was related to the phone. They took their initial findings to Motorola and have been working with them to investigate this issue to come up with a solution. Upon further investigation, Motorola discovered that it wasn’t an issue with the phone but an issue with a particular lot of batteries. This lot of batteries from one of the vendors that Motorola uses had a bad cell in it from a manufacturer. The issue has since been addressed and Motorola has sent a qty of batteries to the US Cellular distribution center to be used to swap out with the bad batteries that customers may come in with. In order for a battery to be swapped, it is required to meet ALL 3 conditions outlined in the picture below. If the battery does not meet these 3 conditions then follow standard troubleshooting steps.
If the battery doesn’t meet the criteria listed you then can send the phone in for repair as normal.
The 3 Conditions required to be met. NO EXCEPTION.
- The Cell Mfg Id MUST be 7R.
- The Cell Mfg Date MUST be 751 or less.
- One of the following part numbers MUST appear; SNN5771A, SNN5771B, or SNN5762A.

PLEASE make sure that you are checking for all 3 criteria BEFORE you try to swap your battery.
Kyocera E1000 for U.S. Cellular
March 19, 2008 Posted by Adam Kurtz
Probably one of Kyocera’s more beautifully crafted mobile phones, the Kyocera E1000 is more than just a flip phone. It is a statement of functionality fused with fashion and simplicity. The Kyocera E1000 is affordable, but one must note that along with its affordability come high-end features that can put any expensive phone with cheap features to shame.
Feature-wise, the Kyocera E1000 is an excellent mobile phone. But what is so great about the E1000 is its novel exterior design, which is something unusual but then beautiful at the same time. The keypad’s sensitivity is just right and soft to the touch. The screen also boasts of large display without the blur. Replacing the Kyocera E1000’s stock case with some customized cell phone cases, cell phone covers, and adding some touch with other mobile phone accessories would be a mortal sin. But that’s just me talking.
The Kyocera E1000 is distributed nationwide by U.S. Cellular.
US Cellular gaining strength
Posted by Adam Kurtz
With US Cellular just releasing their 2nd quarter results for 2007, we can see that they are quickly making big moves for the future. According to the financials, US Cellular saw huge incomes this year, jumping significantly from last year’s points. Service revenues increased a hefty 14.5% since last year, which includes a 77% increase in data service revenues. An even more impressive increase occurred with operating income, which saw an increase of 56.5%. This significant improvement in financial status is largely due to their new strategy to focus on penetrating existing markets, as opposed to growing too fast. According to the President and CEO, John Rooney, US Cellular plans on continuing this strategy for the future, until they can have a stable enough customer base to be able to expand further nationwide. More news should be on the way, and looking at US Cellular’s recent financial history we can definitely expect to hear more from them very soon.

Nokia Bringing Silverlight To Mobile Phones
Posted by Adam Kurtz
Nokia recently announced plans to bring Microsoft’s Silverlight to millions of Smartphones with an
S60 on Symbian OS as well as Series 40 devices and internet tablets.
This program will give developers a platform to create rich interactive programs for the Smartphone and other devices.
“There is clear market demand for rich, Web-based services across a variety of device types, but developing these can often be commercially difficult. For Microsoft this extends Silverlight to a broader range of vendors, platforms and devices. For Nokia it expands the web runtime options on its devices, enabling a wider community of developers and more applications. This should help the uptake of higher speed mobile services and advance a new era of anytime, anywhere device-based computing”, said Bola Rotibi , Principal Analyst at Ovum.
Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering next-generation media experiences and rich interactive applications. Availability of Silverlight for Nokia Series 40 devices and Nokia Internet tablets will be confirmed later.
